Job Summary:
The Medical Laboratory Technician will be responsible for performing laboratory tests and analyses, accurately documenting and analyzing data, and maintaining quality control procedures within the medical laboratory. The incumbent will work collaboratively with other healthcare professionals to ensure timely and accurate patient diagnoses. Attention to detail, adherence to standard operating procedures, and a commitment to maintaining a safe and efficient laboratory environment are essential for success in this role.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Perform a variety of laboratory tests and procedures using established protocols and guidelines.
2. Collect, prepare, and analyze specimens, such as blood, urine, tissue, and other body fluids, ensuring accuracy and adherence to safety standards.
3. Operate and maintain laboratory equipment, troubleshooting issues as necessary, and notifying appropriate personnel of any malfunctions or discrepancies.
4. Accurately record and analyze test results, maintaining comprehensive and organized documentation of all laboratory activities.
5. Monitor and maintain quality control procedures, ensuring accuracy and reliability of laboratory tests and equipment.
6. Collaborate with healthcare professionals, including physicians, nurses, and laboratory staff, to ensure timely and accurate patient diagnoses and treatment plans.
7. Adhere to all laboratory safety protocols and guidelines, maintaining a clean and safe working environment.
8. Stay updated with current knowledge and advancements in laboratory techniques, procedures, and equipment by participating in continuing education and professional development activities.
9. Assist in inventory management, including ordering and restocking laboratory supplies and materials.
10. Adhere to legal, regulatory, and accreditation requirements, including compliance with HIPAA and other relevant standards.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
1. Associate degree in Medical Laboratory Technology or a related field.
2. Valid certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) or equivalent.
3. Proven experience working as a Medical Laboratory Technician or in a similar role.
4. Solid understanding of laboratory techniques, equipment, and procedures.
5. Proficient in accurately recording and analyzing laboratory test results.
6. Strong attention to detail and organizational skills to maintain accurate records and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
7. Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot laboratory equipment and resolve technical issues.
8. Demonstrated ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively in a team-based environment.
9. Knowledge of laboratory safety protocols and adherence to infection control procedures.
10. Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively communicate test results and collaborate with healthcare professionals.
